Scored another great ski day on Friday at Gore. Snowmaking crews had all the summit trails in fantastic condition, with Rumor and Lies skiing the best they have all winter. Hawkeye and Chatiemac were also top notch with soft, dry packed powder conditions. Summit glades skied nicely and we even found some untracked lines in the Straightbrook and Chati Glades and one or two other less traveled trees runs - surprising for a holiday Friday two days after the last snowfall.

Gore Mountain: 02/16/2013

Good skiing in Gore's trees today, if you know where to look for the snow.

We had a surprisingly great day at Gore on Saturday. I say surprising because it hasn't been particularly snowy or even particularly cold this past week. But the mountain skied well thanks to snowmaking and grooming. The biggest surprise was how well some of the summit glades skied - a notch better than last weekend in my opinion.

Snowmaking continues at Gore on the Uncas trail, Saturday 02/16/2013.

It wasn’t the 2 – 3 feet of snow that fell on coastal New England, but winter storm Nemo brought just enough snow to the southern Adirondacks to provide a nice weekend of powder and packed powder conditions and even put some of the glades back in play.

Skiing manmade pow on Hawkeye, Thursday afternoon at Gore Mountain, 02/17/2013.

I guess I’m a typical Weekend Warrior. I do ninety-plus percent of my skiing on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, so it’s something of a novelty when I get to ski mid-week. Empty slopes, corduroy that lasts all day, and a parking spot 50’ from the lodge is something I could get used to.

West Mountain: 02/06/2013

Snowmaking at the top of Midway, West Mountian, Weds night Feb 6, 2013.

Having not skied at West Mountain since three weeks ago (rain last Wednesday, sick the week before), I wasn't sure what to expect tonight in the way of conditions. Specifically, last week's thaw and generally lackluster conditions on my previous visits to West kept my expectations low. However, West's groomers and snowmakers, with some cooperation from mother nature in the form of consistently cold temperatures over the past week, have the mountain in good shape.

Skiing the Uncas trail at Gore on Sunday, February 23, 2013.

I’ll admit that Wednesday’s rain and thaw left me less than excited about the prospect of skiing this weekend. But just like last winter, the grooming and snowmaking crews did a great job turning conditions around for the weekend.
