I guess everyone’s got their favorite terrain at Gore, but for us it’s the summit trails and trees. We log our days on the front-side trails off the gondi during the early weeks of the season, but once the summit terrain comes online that’s where we head.

The Martin Luther King holiday weekend is often one of the busiest of the season at Gore. With not much in the way of recent snowfall, we arrived at Gore Saturday morning expecting to find the mountain crowded and skied off. While the parking lots and lodge were busy, lift lines were minimal and the trails were uncrowded and in great shape from snowmaking and grooming. Undoubtedly, cold temperatures played a role in keeping the crowds away. Temperatures stayed mostly in the single digits all day on the mountain, but a bluebird sky and calm wind kept the day comfortable.

With the ski season interrupted by multiple thaws this year, we’ve had to get our snow back inch by inch lately. Those small amounts, combined with some nice stretches of snowmaking temps, have made a difference. So go hug a snowmaker!

In all the years that we've had season passes to Gore and Whiteface, I've never doubted that our family got our money's worth. But weekends like this, when our passes play double duty at both mountains, the value really hits a home run. We hit a home run with conditions too, with both mountains in great shape following the Christmas thaw.
