It's May and yes, there's still skiing

Wanna ski this weekend? You can. As of this writing, Jay Peak expects to re-open for Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8. Go to their website for more information, including lift ticket and lodging deals. For a first-hand, skis-on-snow account of last weekend's conditions at Jay, check out this trip report from May 1.

But there's no need to travel as far as northern Vermont. If you're willing to earn your turns, you've got options right here in New York. There will almost certainly be a few diehards still skiing Mount Marcy this weekend. Phil Brown, editor of Adirondack Explorer, skied Marcy recently and provides a good account of the conditions skiers can expect at this late point in the season.

Gore officially ended it's season on April 16, but there's still plenty of snow left on trails like Rumor and Lies. My ski pals Kirby and Martha VanVleet hiked up Gore this past Sunday, May 1, to score some late-season turns and came back with smiles, sunburns and a bunch of great photos, including the ones to the right and below. More pictures and a trip report can be found here. And you can bet skiers are doing the same thing up at Whiteface too.

Plenty of snow on Rumor and Lies for another weekend of skiing

And of course there's Tuckerman Ravine, where the spring skiing season is just getting underway. Here's a recent trip report (last weekend) from Tuck's for a look at current conditions there.

It's about 99% certain that my season's over (don't tell my wife about the 1% I'm still holding out on), but it's still fun to see others keeping the season alive.
