After logging 40 +/- days this year we finally closed out our ski season with two Sundays at Killington.
This is the first year we've skied into May, so we're newcomers to the late spring Superstar scene. On one hand, it's surprising how much was lost over just a few weeks. On the other hand, it's surprising how much snow remained. Skiing in shirt sleeves on a 60-degree day, it's easy to think the ski season is going to last straight through summer.
Like any mountain on a sunny spring day, there's plenty of spring bumps, Hawaiian shirts and patio action. What's different about Killington in May is it's the last mountain left in the East. Any diehards left in the East are all there skiing Superstar. Very few chairs go up empty. The intensity level is definitely kicked up a notch or three.
At lunchtime we ran into my friend Steve, who's been a Facebook friend and fellow ski blogger that I've known online for 5 or 6 years without ever meeting face-to-face. Our ski season lasted more than 6 months this year, from November 11 to May 13, blowing away our old record. It doesn't seem quite right to finally be putting the skis away for good. Then again, Killington is still spinning the Superstar chair through Saturday this weekend, and there's always Tuckerman Ravine...
Wow what a long fun season you guys enjoyed. Enjoy the rest of Spring In Less than a month days will be getting shorter.
