In “you don’t know if you don’t go” fashion, conditions last night at West Mountain turned out to be better than I had expected. To be sure, I hadn’t expected much: recent rain and warm weather killed any hope for great conditions. But coverage is fine, and surfaces last night were reasonably edgeable and soft enough for a couple hours of fun skiing with friends.

I missed skiing last Wednesday night, and since my last visit to West two weeks ago the triple chair and various trails accessing that side of the mountain have come on line. Midway, the fun trail that follows the triple chair lift line, isn’t open yet, but snowmaking fan guns are lined up along the length of the trail awaiting colder temperatures.

One of these days this winter we’re bound to get some snow. If that happens to be on a Wednesday, I’ll be at West anyway. But even if it’s not a Wednesday, with West’s convenience (25 minutes from home) and evening hours and my mid-week pass, you can bet I’ll be heading up.
